Baby Quilt is complete, soft greens and blues

Image
The newest baby quilt is complete.  This quilt was embroidered and then pieced with lovely greens and blues cotton fabrics.  The inspiration were the two floral fabrics, they are new and modern, but have a vintage vibe that I really appreciate.  The reverse is a polka dot fabric.  The colors are soft and lovely and make a sweet quilt.  The quilt is available for purchase at my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Duckwells?section_id=15501161&ref=shopsection_leftnav_3

Embroidered Cards - A Fun Way to Use my Sewing Maching

Image
Several years back, I started making embroidered greeting cards for friends and family.  The cards slowly became more elaborate and more fun to create.  Some card samples are below and additional cards are on my website at www.duckwells.com.  I also have cards available for sale at my shop:  https://www.etsy.com/shop/Duckwells?section_id=15501027&ref=shopsection_leftnav_2 Using special pieces of fabric for the cards adds special meaning.  For my wedding thank you cards, I used swatches of my wedding dress fabric as the background.   Please contact me if you're interested having me create custom cards for you.

New Quilt Under Construction

Image
I'm very excited about my next project.  It is a baby quilt of soft blues and greens with a floral pattern.  I want it to be a bit more modern, so I've chosen some very up to date patterns.  Now to get started with the piecing...

Baby Quilt with Pink Animals

Image
https://www.etsy.com/listing/203306069/handmade-baby-quilt-animals-pink I finished the Pink Menagerie baby quilt this week.  The animals are machine embroidered and appliquéd with a shiny satin materials.  The piecing is the bow tie block.  It has a soft flannel backing and biased striped binding. I really like how it turned out and have it up on my Etsy Shop for sale.

A bit of sewing for me...Using McCall's pattern M5433, I created this shirt/tunic out of a nice cotton print.  It has a vintage flair to it that reminds me of my grandfather's shirts, but it has some heft.  It will definitely take me into the fall due to the weight of the cotton. This shirt pattern uses the Palmer/Pletsch method to fit the pattern and I did find that it worked quite well.  The pattern instructions were very well done even giving options for construction.  This would be helpful for a beginner.  I'm pleased how it came out and am looking forward to wearing something that fits.

Kewpie Inspired Dress Up Doll Kits

Image
I created these Kewpie inspired dress up doll kits using denim and felt.  The denim background gives the kit a sturdiness and I embroidered the Kewpie inspired design directly onto the denim.  The clothing was all embroidered on navy felt, which fades into the background.  I used 404 spray on the back of the clothing.  It is repositionable and has worked very well for this project.  To keep the adhesion effective, I used clear vinyl on the backing of the clothing pockets.   These were very time consuming, I did combine all the clothing onto one or two hoops and made about 7 at a time.  I brought them to work and they were scooped up immediately.
